Doodle Gifs - Get Doodle gifs in the hands of normies, today!

tldr: Jon becomes mememaster, hires artists, and produces custom animated gifs for Doodles’ official Giphy page.

Doodles is falling behind.

Other NFT communities like Pudgy Penguins have over 300 million views of their gifs on Giphy. Chubbiverse has over 1.2 billion views on their Giphy.

Doodles’ official Giphy only has a total of 50 million views on the official Giphy account. That means Doodles has 24x less views than Chubbiverse.

And what is worse: Doodles doesn’t even have an official Tenor account, which is what is primarily used on Discord’s GIF picker.

The solution: Make some gifs.

Phase 0: Creation of a Doodlebank proposal. For this proposal I am asking for a raise of 6.69 ETH. However only 1.69 ETH will be initially granted.

Phase 1: After initial seed capital is granted, 1.69 ETH will be released for initial creation of GIFs.

Jon will negotiate and contract with 3-5 different artists to start production of initial GIFs.

Journey2Doodle, PJETCH, NFT_Sushi (if she’s not too busy!) will be contacted and prices negotiated. In addition, I will contact some Web 2.0 sticker artists I have worked with before. The goal is to create around 20 high quality gifs in this first wave.

Why multiple artists? Because I’m a data nerd, more on that later.

Once artists are confirmed and available, I will begin work on a master list of GIF theme targets we want to hit. These will be around common gif emotions often shared, NFT specific memes, recommendations from the holder community, and built off of the existing data we already have. Each artist will be assigned a handful to choose from and then create.

Phase 2: GIFs will be released on both Tenor and Giphy, and optionally uploaded as stickers into the main Discord.

Phase 3: Data review. a couple weeks after each cycle is released, Jon will review all GIFs uploaded to Giphy, and how they are performing. Here are our current stats:

This process will also review the tags being used, here’s some more data on what our tag performance looks like right now with outliers removed:

tag avg views gifs with tag
#rainbow 534,831.00 5
#jupiter 329,409.80 5
#mars 329,409.80 5
#venus 329,409.80 5
#burnt toast 319,336.33 18
#nft 313,729.21 39
#nfts 313,729.21 39
#doodles 309,406.83 40

Phase 4: Once a milestone is hit, new funds are granted and the cycle repeats starting from Phase 1.

Additional funds to start a new cycle will not come until the follow milestones are hit:

Initial cycle - 0 views (1.69 eth)
2nd cycle - 100m views (1 Eth more)
3rd cycle - 200m views (1 Eth more)
4th cycle - 400m views (1 Eth more)
5th cycle - 700m views (1 Eth more for final gifs to push us over 1billion)
Completion: At 1bil views, 1 Eth to Jon as reward for effort.

So why do we need more Gifs?

There is no reason we in the community need to wait around for Doodles2 before Doodles becomes a household name or brand. We have access to every household, every device, through Gifs, and should be trying to support the Doodles team right now, by spreading the brand, art style, and Doodles vibes through Tenor/Giphy.

Let me know what you think of the above proposal, and of course if you can think of any ideas for GIFs we should start off with!

Fantastic proposal. This is a good use of our funds and helps community artists get closer to acquiring doodles, many of which are still relying on one-off derivative commissions to make that happen.

This is a fabulous opportunity for the brand to gain more exposure while continuing to groom our community artists to improve their skills bringing the doodles brand to life in different ways.

You have my wand!

I’m assuming the views come from every time the GIF is used in Discord or any other platform which either uses Tenor or Giphy.

Views do not determine whether Doodles will become a household brand or bridge Web2. Do we have any metrics to determine the views came from Web2 users or only Web3 users?

Important pointers:

  • How does more views on GIFs contribute to brand growth?
  • What is the gameplan to get Web2 users to use Doodles GIFs?

Overall, the proposal shares the end-goal but not the process and the important KPIs.
If GIFs are the way, why are we not targeting Telegram sticker packs? Telegram animated sticker packs are probably the most popular. In June 2022, Telegram surpassed 700 million monthly active users.

Brand recognition is hugely important! Having people use it and share it will allow the style and art to become way more recognizable.

I’m relatively limited solely on metrics that the gif hosting sites provide, it does not seem like Tenor provides any view statistics either.

How does more views on GIFs contribute to brand growth?

Brand recognition - will make Doodles feel more familiar especially if the user has seen it before.

What is the gameplan to get Web2 users to use Doodles GIFs?

The same way these other NFT projects have, creating gifs and properly tagging them so they pop up when users on Instagram, Discord, Messenger, search a phrase for a gif and find them.

The important KPIs are the views on Giphy since that is the most measurable KPI I can reasonably track. Doing a brand awareness survey after 1 ETH of spending would be unfeasible.

We can definitely do this too! Once the art is done it is trivial to release it on more platforms.

yooo very nice proposal! go for it!!!

love this idea and feel free to use my doods. can we expand this to get some standard meme gifs created?

@Jon_HQ any update on this proposal? i think its a no brainer

Support this! I think it’s extensible for sticker packs on other platforms, but I like the test-then-scale approach. Buzz if you need some help!

@Jon_HQ We need this. Solid proposal. You’ve got my full support on this.

Fully onboard with this. Love the thinking here.
